Coming from a calamitous 2017 where he was all over the news for different controversies and bad publicity which resulted in him cancelling what was supposed to be his first headline concert in december, Burna surely held his head high and entered 2018 with high hopes. Then in January, Burna released of his ‘’Outside’’ album and thus began his redemption as the album warmed the hearts of music lovers with stand out records like ‘Heaven’s Gate’ and ‘streets of africa’ taking their mind away from all the negative publicity Burna had in the previous year.
The ‘outside’ album worked like magic and burna’s year began taking shape, however it wasn’t until a few months later when burna boy released ‘Ye’ that he became a true contender for the Nigerian artist of the year. ‘Ye’ elevated burna boy and took him to heights he had never reached in his career especially internationally, just like Ojuelegba did for wizkid and IF for davido.
Soon videos of Burna Boy performing ‘Ye’ during his ‘Life On The Outside’ tour of the United States started surfacing sending the online community into a frenzy and little by little, ‘Ye’ began to grow into a hashtag and then a movement.
