Born on the 6th of December 1993 in Ondo state, Reekado Banks is a popular Nigerian songwriter, singer, recording artiste and entertainer. Real names Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, reekado banks first gained popularity after he featured tiwa savage in hit single “turn it up”. Few months later he blew up completely after singing the hook of the famous Mavin song “Dorobucci”.
Reekado Banks Biography: Family Early Life and Education
Reekado Banks was born to a disciplined Christian family with both his parents being pastors. While his father is a full time pastor, his mother as well as being a pastor is also a caterer. He is the last born of the family having an elder brother and sister. Reekado Banks was born into music with all the members of his family involved in music one way or the other. Reekado’s father used to sing while his mother was a dancer. His brother is a producer while his elder sister is a gospel artiste.
He finished from secondary school at the early age of 14. After obtaining his waec certificate reekado Banks went on too study History and Strategic Study at the University of Lagos graduating with a second class degree.
One of the most humiliating experiences banks had was when a Unilag lecturer prevented him from retaking a test he missed telling him he would never achieve his dreams after preventing him from retaking a test he missed.
Reekado Banks Biography: Music Career and Fame
Reekado banks began recording songs under the guidance and tutoring of his elder brother at the age of 14 after graduating from secondary school.
At his early age before he got signed, his brother handled all of his music production and thought him all about song writing and producing.
It was his elder brother who made the recording contract with Mavin records at all possible. When Mavin records was still it’s early years, they did an online talent search across Nigeria with more than 5000 people submitting their songs. Unknown to Reekado, his elder brother submitted some his work and Reekado was chosen among the many applicants. The negotiations were even handled by his brother unknown to him before he was later informed of the breath taking news.
While speaking with the National Mirror Reekado said that he’s a versatile artist who makes music with the thought that humans are different and all have different taste.
Reekado Banks wasted no time and released his first official single “Turn It Up” under new record label Mavin records on the 21st of February 2014, which happens to be the same day he got signed. The song featured Mavin queen Tiwa Savage.
On the 1st of May that same year Reekado Banks was featured alongside label mates Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, korede hello, Di’Ja, Dr SID and D’Prince on the popularly critical acclaimed song “Dorobucci”, taking the popular hook. Reekado Banks also collaborated with his label mates to release popular singles “Adaobi”, “Arise” and “Looku Looku”.
On The 13th of February 2015, Reekado Banks released the song “Katapot” produced by Don. Many NigerIan’s claimed the song was a diss track towards D’banj and Wande Coal due to the controversial way they left Don Jazzy. Don Jazzy however refuted the allegations in a series of tweets. While speaking to Vanguard newspaper, Reekado Banks stated that he released the song “Katapot” for his fans.
In his words, “There is no amount of sacrifice that was enough to get me something this big.”
Reekado Banks recounted how he used to hawk blenders in traffic and work as a manual labourer at construction sites in order to earn money so he could use to further his after he told his parents about his intention to pursue a career in music
He has often cited Olamide, Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia, DJ Jimmy Jatt and M.I as the people that inspired him for music.
When reekado started out, he went by the name “spicy” before later adopting his stage name Reekado Banks. He derived the stage name Reekado Banks by combining the meanings of the two names; with Reekado when translated interpreted to mean “strong ruler”, while the Banks is loosely translated to mean “wealth”.
