Duncan Mighty Biography: Who is Duncan Mighty ?

Born on the 28th of October, 1983 in Port Harcourt Nigeria, Duncan Mighty is a very popular Nigerian singer, Producer and songwriter. Full names Duncan Wene Mighty Okechukwu, Duncan was born in Eligbam Obio Akpor local government in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He’s the only son and child of his parents. Popularly called “Port Harcourt 1st Son” he is known for his hit single with Wizkid titled Fake Love. He is without any doubt, the biggest artist to come from Port Harcourt, Nigeria and has been a musician for many years. Most of his songs are sang in his native dialect ikwerre (mixed with with English).

The only child of his parents, Duncan Mighty spent all his early life and had all his Education in Port Harcourt. He started out in Federal Government College Port Harcourt being one of the brightest kids to ever emerge from the school. He was renowned for his proficiency in mathematics (the best in his set) winning multiple awards for his school as at the time.

His interest in music began from his youth were he began as an instrumentalist playing the keyboard and drums in his church and was the choir director. His interest in music eventually led him to the school, influencing his choice of course study with Duncan opting in for Audio engineering.

He was posted to Lagos for his Youth Service, Serving as a sound instructor for Benson and Hedges. He also worked at Dolphin Studios while still on his IT at the Muson Center in Lagos. During his service he gained confidence on his singing potential, although he was still majorly focused on music production. He later began recording and eventually combining both skills. Till date he still puts to use his knowledge in audio engineering both in the studio and outside the studio.

After Serving and obtaining knowledge in Lagos concerning Music & Music production, Duncan Mighty returned to Port Harcourt refusing to stay and make music in Lagos as he believed he could excel wherever he was. On his return, he began working with record companies D Large Records and 360 Records, before later he teaming up with Chris Aire to set up AireMighty Records.

Duncan Mighty officially kick-started his career by releasing his first studio album in the year 2008 which he titled Koliwater. The album being his first was a very huge success. The 22-track album contained hit songs like “Ijeoma”, “Scatter My Dada”, “Ako Na Uche” which were all top hits as at the time. With his first album gaining huge success, Duncan began working on a second album.

Duncan Mighty then followed koliwater with a second studio album titled Ahamefuna (Legacy) which was released in the second quarter 2010 having 15 tracks this time around. The album was produced by Duncan Mighty himself with lead single “I Don’t Give A Shot”. Ahamefuna was well received by critics and fans making huge sales across the country and continent with songs “Obianuju” and “Port Harcourt son” the lead singles on the album. He experienced broad fame garnered a very huge fan-base and social media following.

Duncan Mighty determined to remain a strong force in the Nigerian music industry released his third studio album In September 2012 titled Footprints. The 18-track album which featured guest appearances from lots of top Nigerian musicians as at the time including Timaya, Shaggy, Otuu Sax, Sandaz Black, Wande Coal etc. The album was also a hit but did not match successes of his previous two albums.

Duncan at this time began too decline as other artists began ruling the whole country, with Wizkid’s 2011 Superstar album still making waves as at the time of Duncan Mighty’s third album release.

Duncan Mighty later tried to recover the magic he made with his first and second album by releasing a fourth studio album in 2014 titled Grace & Talent. This album was released through the imprint of Young Wealth Records, featuring artistes like Tick Lips, J Flex , Phyno Phino,Young Stunna etc. It was a good album overall but it still couldn’t match the success of his first two albums.

He also released the ‘’The Certificate’’ in 2016, but was considered a flop, not because of lack of quality, but simply because the album could not make waves in the country as the new kids on the block were holding the country too ransom with artistes like Kiss daniel, Tekno, Davido, Wizkid, Lil kesh, Olamide etc suppressing his album with all of their major hits.

Duncan Might Biography: The Great Come-Back

Fast forward to 2018 and Duncan Mighty is once again one of the most relevant artiste in Nigeria. 

With the help of non other than Star-Boy himself, Duncan Mighty Reinvigorated his career with single Fake Love. Duncan Mighty had always been a phenomenal artiste, but his addition of Wizkid to Fake Love added a touch of beauty the single fake love taking him to an exceptional realm in the music Industry.

Duncan Mighty is now one of the most featured artiste in Nigeria as a whole and has featured no less than 10 top Nigerian artistes this year (2018) alone.
