Born on the 3rd of May 1996 Alex Iwobi is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a winger for top premier league football club arsenal. Full names Alexander Chuka Iwobi, he is a nephew to Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha.

Alex Iwobi was born with football in his genes as his uncle Jay Jay Okocha was on of the best footballers Africa has ever produced while his father Chuba Iwobi, was a lawyer by profession who also played amateur football. Iwobi has just one sibling, a younger sister marrie. Although he was Born in Nigeria, Iwobi did not really spend a lot of time in the country. As at the early age of four(4) his family moved to London and settled there were they became re-united with football legend Jay Jay Okocha who was studying there as at the time.

Iwobi’s family settled somewhere in East London near bolton wanderers football club, with Iwobi becoming friends with one of the neighbors tyrell robinson. He and tyrell played lots of football together as kids and teenagers before they would go on too become professionals.

Alex Iwobi joined Arsenal while he was still in primary school. He was given a chance to display his talent and prove why he should be in the senior team when he was called from the substitute bench to replace a player in the League Cup match against West Bromwich Albion on the 25th September 2013.

Before making his international football debut in Nigeria, Iwobi earlier played for England at the International level, appearing at U16, U17, U18  competitions. On the 8th of october Iwobi was called upon in place of the Nigerian superstar Ahmed Musa. With musa taken out of the game after 57 mins in the friendly match against Dr Congo.

On the 27th of October 2015, Iwobi made his debut as a full starter for Arsenal in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday. He made his Champions League debut as an 85th-minute substitute in a 5–1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Iwobi started in the first team for the 2015–16 FA Cup 3rd and 4th round home wins against Sunderland and Burnley respectively.

After appearing in his first Champions League start in a 3–1 away defeat to Barcelona, he was able to score two goals in his first two Premier League starts in wins against Everton, and Watford, respectively. Thereafter, he changed his squad number from 45 to 17 as a result of Alexis Sánchez taking up the newly vacated number 7 from the departing Tomáš Rosický.

Although he was hardly used, he was still influential in Arsenal’s victorious FA Cup campaign of 2016–17. As so he earned a winners medal as being part of the squad that beat Chelsea by 2 goals to 1 in the final of such. He achieved massive success with Arsenal in the 2017 Community Shield, in which Arsenal beat Chelsea on penalties.

He gradually started becoming a regular player for the Arsenal squad in the 2016 – 2017 FA Cup where they won Chelsea in the finals by two goals to one. He again was part of the team that won the Community Shield. He started playing for Nigerian Super Eagles senior football squad in a friendly match against DR Congo in 2015. He was also among the Nigerian 35 member squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics but had to pull out before the final squad was announced due to injury.

He is a very versatile player and is respected by many because of his ability and flexibility as he can play in any position required. He is now a regular starter for arsenal with unai emery bringing the best out of him. He has a very large fan-base and followers from all forms of social networks.
